| Is a Stone Fireplace Design For You? |
Stone fireplace designs are one of the most popular designs people choose. Offering a variety of beautiful styles, they can be used in both contemporary and traditional fireplace designs and are permanent in nature.
As lovely as they are, you'll have to research a few things to determine whether a stone fireplace design is feasible or practical.
Stone availability. Some areas don't have certain types of stone available. If you are set on a certain type, you may have to have it shipped in, which could be a considerable cost.
Building codes. The stone you use won't be the practical element in containing your fires. It will simply be the frame for your fireplace. You'll have to check if they comply with your area's building codes and regulations and if you'll need a firebox.
Contractor ability. Your fireplace contractor may or may not have the ability to install stone into your home, if it's even possible. There are options for creating the illusion of stone that may be more in line with code or more practical. Your contractor will have viable solutions if stone isn't an option.
Other options. If some or all of these restrictions prevent you from having the indoor stone fireplace design you desire, you can always consider putting in an outdoor stone fireplace. The lessened restrictions and improved practicality make this type of fireplace a viable and useful alternative. |
